I am honored to announce that BRES volunteer Frank Washburn has been selected to receive the 2014 Maine School Board Association’s Distinguished Service Award. Frank will receive this award at the Maine School Management Association’s Annual Fall Conference on October 24, 2014. Nominated by Eileen King and School Board Chairman, Larry Colcord, letters of support from BRES Principal Mark Tess and 5th grade teacher Rita Arnold cited Frank’s outstanding service to the students at Boothbay Region Elementary School. Board Chairman Colcord wrote:
“At a time when it is imperative to connect students with positive role models, Frank volunteers his time where he spends his days working with students, teaching math, assisting students one to one, eating lunch with them, working with them after school and supporting them as needed. Frank has become such a common face at BRES, that he is now considered part of the staff and participates in many of the school’s activities and workshop days.
The Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor C.S.D. is graced with many wonderful volunteers, however, it is Frank’s daily dedication and devotion to our students that sets him apart from others. He understands the importance of consistent relationships with the students he works with. Year after year, Frank’s daily presence provides many of our students with a positive and caring role model—and for some, he is the only support they have in their lives.”
Please join me in congratulating Frank on a very well deserved award.
