Open Ed

I want to share a resource that I looked through this weekend. This is a very well designed, comprehensive and teacher/student friendly Open Educational Resource (OER).  I strongly encourage anyone using video, OER resources, or other online components in their classrooms to look this resource over.  If you haven’t incorporated OER materials in your classroom before, then this is a terrific place to start.

As a teacher you can find resources by standards, content area, or search terms.  You can create lists of resources to share with your students by topic.  You can even create a “course” of materials to be followed over time.

About OpenEd »

OpenEd is the largest K-12 educational resource catalog, with over a million Common Core Videosgames andassessments. While it integrates with all popular Learning Management Systems it offers its own simple “flipped classroom” LMS oriented to using resources. It is the the only site focused on offering Common Core and other standard aligned resources, so it has many more times Common Core Videosgames and assessments than any other catalog.

For those schools using iPads, the resource also has an iPad app found here.

Shawn, I downloaded this app and now it wants me to sign in but I don’t see a place to create an account. Do I need to do that on a laptop? Jo

  2. shawncarlson says:

Jo, the account must be created on the website first, which can be done on the iPad or Laptop. The app is designed to be the portal for students that you have in a class.

I just went to the website and registered and am waiting to see if the app will open.

Thank you Shaun. I see many possibilities under language arts that look very intriguing.
